Mentor and Mentee Meeting!

The Mentor/Mentee Meet & Greet will take place in the Fond du Lac rooms A-C from 5:00-5:30 PM.

Linda Walton, President-elect of the MLA, will give a presentation for students and scholarship winners.  M/M pairs can listen to the presentation or mingle in the other end of the space or go to the atrium and relax at the Manager’s reception for some personal conversation.

Construction on I-55

We have reports that travel on I-55 just south of I-80 (around Joliet) is difficult because of the construction.  If you are driving from the Chicago area, please consider an alternate route. Note the slow areas on the map below.


This is a last minute call for bloggers and photographers (and tweeters) for Midwest MLA 2013! We’re looking for bloggers and photographers capture Midwest MLA 2013 from their unique perspectives.


Attendees with enthusiasm welcomed! No blogging or photography experience necessary.


It’s a great way to get involved with the meeting, chat with fellow librarians and involve who are sadly absent.

Attention Midwest Chapter/MLA Annual Conference attendees!

Mentors are needed for the Mentor/Mentee Program!


Great News!  Response to the Mentor/Mentee program has been tremendous!  So far I have 13 people who want to be mentees, but only 8 people who have volunteered to be mentors.


The Mentor/Mentee Program connects newer members or first-time conference attendees with returning, more experienced members at the conference.


Mentors benefit from the program in many ways.  Here are just some of them:

  • Expansion of your professional network
  • Exposure to new ideas
  • Viewing the conference from a fresh perspective
  • Feeling a sense of satisfaction from helping someone grow professionally


Please search your hearts and check your schedules.  If you are willing to share your experience and professionalism with someone new to Midwest Chapter/MLA or a first time conference attendee, please contact me as soon as possible:

Calling all HIPsters! (Health Information Practitioners, that is!)

The University of Illinois at Chicago Library of the Health Sciences is sponsoring a “Health Information Practice Summit” during the Midwest Chapter/MLA meeting in East Peoria, IL on October 7, 2013. The purpose of the Summit is to gather Midwestern health sciences librarians of all varieties to discuss the changes taking place in our environments and exchange stories about what we are doing to address the challenges and opportunities engaging us.

*Share Your Story*
We would like to hear about how librarians are changing the way they practice to solve a problem, enhance a clinical service, contribute to an IRB or systematic review, consult on EHR utilization, organize big data, remove a barrier to access, transform health workforce training or education, advance research, or facilitate the creation and transfer of knowledge in your organization, etc.The HIP Summit is focused on changing roles and innovative information practices rather than new technology trends.

*How: Present a 5-minute Lightning Round segment in the HIP Summit

The HIP Summit will include 8 lightning rounds, presentations from a panel of experts, and a facilitated discussion with all participants on the new roles that librarians are playing in clinical settings, research departments, and academic institutions.
