he American Library Association’s Nominating Committee for the 2017 elections is seeking candidates for the positions of ALA President-Elect and Councilor-at-Large. Out of those nominated, the Committee will choose two candidates to run for President-Elect and at least 50 candidates to run for the 33 at-large seats on the ALA Council. The President-Elect will serve for three years, the first one (2017-18) as President-Elect, the next one (2018-19) as President, and the third (2019-20) as Immediate Past-President. The Councilors-at-Large will each serve a three-year term, beginning after the 2017 ALA Conference and concluding after the 2020 ALA Conference. The ALA President and Councilors will also fill similar roles in the ALA-Allied Professional Association, which will require lobbying activities and serving on the governing board of a 501(c)6 organization. Individuals seeking office should check with their employers about any restrictions on participating in these activities.
To make nominations, including self-nominations, members should submit detailed information (including completing a Candidate Biographical Form) to any member of the Nominating Committee for the 2017 elections. The deadline is July 8, 2016. For more information, including the list of Committee members and the link to the biographical form, go here.
