I am seeking participants for my doctoral capstone study of female academic library administrators (dean/associate dean, director/associate director), “Beating the odds: female leadership in academic libraries” (IRB-FY2025-57). This qualitative study aims to understand women’s difficulties in attaining an administrative position within an academic library to articulate best practices to encourage other women to seek an administrative role. The interviews will identify patterns in participants’ experiences, perceptions, feelings, and actions related to attaining an administrative position in the academic library. Understanding these experiences may help to identify attributes and experiences that allow one to pursue and achieve a leadership position in an academic library.
I am seeking individuals who:
- are female
- are academic librarians (hold an MLIS or equivalent degree from an ALA accredited institution)
- currently hold an administrative appointment at an institution of higher education (2 or 4-year school)
If you want to participate in this project, please click here to schedule your interview. The interviews will be conducted in March, 2025.
