The Research & Publications Committee of the Academic Library Association of Ohio (ALAO) is excited to announce that we are opening a call for proposals for a free virtual webinar series in Spring 2023. This series, titled, “Librarians as Researchers: Developing our Scholarly Identities”, is intended to support academic librarians looking to develop or refresh their research skills and identities. The focus of presentations should be toward empowering librarians as researchers, rather than librarians supporting student or faculty research.
Do you have particular experience conducting original LIS research and would like to share your experience and knowledge with librarians from other institutions? The goal of this series is not to provide exhaustive overviews of any topic. Rather, we wish to provide a venue for librarians to share their knowledge on different aspects of research in order to help other librarians to actualize their own identities as researchers. We hope that this webinar series will represent a diversity of librarians and research experiences.
Potential topics include, but are not limited to:
- Librarians developing identities as researchers
- Inclusive and anti-racist research practices
- BIPOC librarian experiences as researchers
- Developing research partnerships with faculty or librarians
- Building a research support community
- Identifying and selecting journals to publish in (including open access journals)
- Successful proposal writing
- Finding and applying for grants
- Choosing research methodology (evidence synthesis, digital humanities, digital scholarship, data analysis, etc.)
- Research project development/management
- Navigating the IRB application process
- Research data management (e.g. DMPTool)
- Promoting your scholarship (e.g. ORCiD, Google Scholar)
- Any other topic relating to developing librarians’ research identities
Speakers DO NOT need to be ALAO members. We welcome a diverse group of presenters from outside of Ohio and beyond! Presentations should be 30-45 minutes in length, with an additional 15 minutes for discussion or Q&A. Proposals should be submitted using the submission form and are due no later than Friday, March 3. We hope to start the webinar series the last week of April 2023.
Webinars are expected to adhere to the ALAO Code of Conduct and use of inclusive language.
In addition to contact information, the submission form will ask applicants to supply the following information:
- Webinar title
- Webinar abstract (250 words)
- How your presentation would benefit librarians developing their research identities (max 150 words)
- 1-3 learning outcome(s).
Please send questions about proposals to Paul C. Campbell, at campbep1@ohio.edu, or Sarah Nagle, at pricesb@miamioh.edu.
