The University of Illinois at Chicago will host the 2016 Chicago Colloquium on Digital Humanities & Computer Science (DHCS), from Saturday, November 12, to Sunday, November 13. The DHCS brings together researchers and scholars in the humanities and computer science to examine the current state of digital humanities as a field of intellectual inquiry, and to identify and explore new directions and perspectives for future research. The 2016 theme is “New Directions”, and we invite submissions on any research broadly related to digital humanities and computer science work applied to humanistic research, with a particular focus on new trends in the following areas: publishing, mapping, health humanities, digital archives, visualization and visualization tools, gaming, workflows, theories, and methodologies.
The conference will include a keynote address by Geoffrey Rockwell, Professor of Philosophy and Humanities Computing and Director of the Kule Institute for Advanced Study at the University of Alberta, on Saturday, November 12. Dr. Rockwell works in the area of philosophical dialogue, textual visualization and analysis, humanities computing, instructional technology, computer games and multimedia. As a co-investigator in the Text Mining the Novel SSHRC Partnership, he collaborates with Stefan Sinclair on a hybrid manuscript Hermeneutica and tool Volant project, and he is the co-lead of the TAPoR project documenting text tools for humanists.
