James G. (“Jim”) Neal, University Librarian Emeritus at Columbia University, has been declared the winner of the 2016 ALA presidential election, finishing ahead of UIUC’s Lisa Janicke Hinchliffe. It was a close race; out of 10,493 votes cast, Neal received just 162 more than Hinchliffe did. Christine Lind Hage, Director of the Rochester Hills (Michigan) Public Library, came in third. The race for Treasurer was uncontested, with Susan H. Hildreth who leads several library systems in California, winning. Neither of the Illinois academic librarians running for Councilor-at-Large, Steve Brantley of Eastern Illinois University and Sarah McHone-Chase of Northern Illinois University, was elected.
