Staying ahead of the latest technology trends is important for librarians. New technologies continue to shape how learners access and use information. As educators, librarians must stay ahead of the curve and be ready to incorporate new technology into library services and instructional sessions. This webinar will provide participants with an overview of how new technology is impacting education. Participants will engage with examples and case studies that illustrate the use of new educational technology in classroom settings and be asked to think broadly about how technology can be used in educational settings or to enhance library services. Special attention will be given to the Horizon Report and other tools that track technology trends. Upon completion of this webinar, participants should be able to successfully identify key technology trends, understand the impact of new technologies on education, assess the appropriateness of an emerging technology for use in their library, and identify resources for staying informed about emerging technology trends.
The webinar will be presented by Emily Hurst, AHIP, who serves as the head of research and education at the Virginia Commonwealth University’s Tompkins-McCaw Library for the Health Sciences in Richmond. Her eight years of work as a medical librarian include over four years’ experience as a trainer with the National Network of Libraries of Medicine, South Central Region, where she served as the technology coordinator. In this role, she introduced librarians to new technologies for library services and education. Hurst continues to explore the use of technology in teaching practice and guides librarians as they make informed decisions about technology implementation.
The webinar will take place on Tuesday, November 29, from 1:00 to 2:30 PM CST. Individual registration is $59 for MLA members and $99 for non-members. For site registrants, the cost is $225 for member institutions and $325 for non-member institutions. Participants will earn 1.5 MLA continuing education (CE) hours.
