Nominations are being accepted for the 2017 Association for Library Collections & Technical Services (ALCTS) awards for outstanding achievement and promise in the field of serials and continuing resources. The awards are presented by the Continuing Resources Section of ALCTS. One award honors an individual who shows outstanding promise in the field of serials, while the other recognizes an individual whose work represents the finest achievements in research, collaboration, creative work, leadership and service. The deadline for both awards is Thursday, December 1.
The First Step Award provides librarians who are new to the serials field with the opportunity to broaden their perspectives and encourages professional development and participation at American Library Association (ALA) conferences and Continuing Resources Section activities. ALCTS members with five or less years of professional experience in the continuing resources field are eligible. The award consists of $1,500, donated by Wiley, and is applicable toward round trip transportation, lodging, registration fees, and related expenses. In addition to the candidate’s written statement, her or his commitment to professional development in the continuing-resources field will be taken into consideration. More information is available here. Nominations should be submitted to Debra Spidal, Chair of the First Step Jury, at debra.spidal@wsu.edu.
The Ulrich’s Serials Librarianship Award is given for distinguished contributions to serials librarianship. The award consists of a citation and $1,500 donated by ProQuest. The nominee’s leadership ability in the serials field, as demonstrated by participation in professional organizations, will be taken into account. Her or his contribution to the scholarly literature on serials will also be considered, as will the individual’s development of tools or methods that enhance access to or management of serials. More information about the award is available here. Nominations should be sent to Lynn Fields, Chair of the Ulrich’s Jury, at lfields@siue.edu.
