The Cataloging Maintenance Center (CMC) is offering several Moodle courses this year. They are all 6-weeks and asynchronous (log in when it is convenient for you). Register in L2 (links below). Subject Analysis, June 29-August 7: There is a maximum of 30 students for this class. Register by June 22.
The Cataloging Maintenance Center (CMC) is providing Subject Analysis training for library staff in any Illinois library. This is a 6-week course using Moodle software. There are text files, online quizzes, assignments, and links to outside resources (OCLC Bibliographic Formats and Standards, Library of Congress authority file, MARC21 for Bibliographic Data, videos, and documents). Topics covered include controlled indexing language, keyword versus controlled vocabulary, the purpose of subject headings, the 20% rule, content analysis, Library of Congress Subject Headings (LCSH), word-based approaches to retrieval, Sears List of Subject Headings, and MeSh (Medical Subject Headings).
This is an asynchronous course, so you will not need to log in at a specific time, but you are expected to complete assignments and quizzes by the end of each week.

Learning Objectives
Determine relevant subject headings from summary statements.
Understand keyword versus controlled vocabulary.
Create subject headings in a MARC (MAchine Readable Cataloging) format.
Perform content analysis.

RDA Book Training, August 17-September 25: There is a maximum of 25 students for this class. Register by August 10.
The Cataloging Maintenance Center (CMC) is providing RDA Book Training for library staff in any Illinois library. This is a 6-week course using Moodle software. This course covers the changes from AACR to RDA guidelines. FRBR, WEMI, identifying hybrid, AACR and RDA records, and series will be covered. Participants will take quizzes and copy catalog books. It is assumed that participants have basic cataloging knowledge and experience.
This is an asynchronous course, so you will not need to log in at a specific time, but you are expected to complete assignments and quizzes by the end of each week.
Registered participants will be e-mailed a login and password before August 17.

RDA Video and Audio Recording Training, October 5-November 13: There is a maximum of 25 students for this class. Register by September 28.
The Cataloging Maintenance Center (CMC) is providing RDA Video and Audio Recording Training for library staff in any Illinois library. This is a 6-week course using Moodle software. This course covers the changes from AACR to RDA guidelines. MARC record elements, including fixed field elements, will be covered. Participants will copy catalog DVDs, music CDs, and audiobooks, and find matching records in OCLC. It is assumed that participants have basic cataloging knowledge and experience.
This is an asynchronous course, so you will not need to log in at a specific time, but you are expected to complete assignments and quizzes by the end of each week.
