Libraries are public places open to all. Unfortunately, in today’s society this means library leaders and their communications and marketing teams need to be prepared to react to violence and other disruptive events in their libraries. In a 24-hour news cycle world, it is essential that crisis communications be managed quickly and effectively during and in the aftermath of a crisis.
The Library Leadership and Management Association (LLAMA) will present “Message Dissemination During a Crisis: Columbus Metropolitan Library’s Main Library Shooting,” on Wednesday, January 22, at 1:30-3:00 pm CT. In this webinar, Gregg Dodd, Director of Marketing, Columbus (OH) Metropolitan Library, will provide an overview of a shooting incident that took place at CML’s Main Library and how he executed his crisis communications plan. He’ll share practical strategies that will help libraries implement a plan and navigate the complexities of message dissemination during a crisis.
Participants will learn:
* What to communicate to patrons and the community during a crisis
* Why it is important to develop a crisis communication plan before it’s needed
* Strategies developing the plan
* How to identify the most important communication channels and when to use them
This webinar addresses several of LLAMA’s Foundational Leadership Competencies including: Communication skills, marketing and advocacy
