Brian Miller of The Ohio State University Libraries, Lapis Cohen of the University of Pennsylvania, and I will be presenting on the International ILL Toolkit during a webinar on Thursday, February 17, starting at 10:00 AM CDT. The session, co-sponsored by the OCLC Research Library Partnership and the ALA RUSA STARS International ILL Committee, is free and open to everyone in the resource sharing community. Registration is now open. (Even if you aren’t available to attend live, registering will ensure that you’ll be among the first to receive a link to the session recording soon afterwards.)
The International ILL Toolkit is a freely available, crowd-sourced effort to make global resource sharing easier. The project was initiated after a discussion among members of the SHARES resource sharing consortium, where folks compared notes about the difficulty of finding information about ILL lenders willing to share internationally that aren’t suppliers on OCLC WorldShare ILL. Everyone seems to have their own cheat sheet with information about such lenders. We wondered if maybe somebody should compile all those spreadsheets into a shareable tool and then systematically search for information on other such lenders.
Brian and Lapis stepped up and embraced that challenge. The International ILL Toolkit is the result. More information, including a link to the Toolkit, is available here.
Sign up for the webinar to learn how the Toolkit has grown into an elaborate, multifaceted set of resources with contributions from libraries around the world.
The session will be an opportunity for you to explore the components of the Toolkit:
- An ever-growing listing of lenders from around the world with contact, delivery, and payment information
- Tips and tricks for international ILL by country/region
- Translated ILL request templates which can be copied for local use, prepared in collaboration with library professionals fluent in that language
You’ll also get a peek at future plans for the Toolkit and, perhaps most importantly, participate in the dialogue on ways to continue improving this valuable, evolving resource.
