- Thursday, October 8, 2020: “Punctuate the Positive, or Eliminate the Negative”
- Cheri Schuler-Faust will discuss options regarding the use of punctuation when newly authenticating bibliographic records. Fully punctuate any field when descriptive cataloging form is recorded as “ISBD punctuation included,” Desc i. Omit final punctuation and punctuation between subfields, when descriptive cataloging form is recorded as “ISBD punctuation omitted,” Desc c. Register here.
The CMC typically holds its Online with the CMC webinars on the third Thursday of the month, but it has had to move the October session up a week, since the OLAC conference is being held Oct. 13-16 and all the CMC will be attending. All webinars take place from 10:00 to 11:00 AM CDT.

- November 19, 2020: “Well Isn’t That Special?: Archival Materials & Special Collections”
- A look at finding aids, common cataloging schemas including Dublin Core and MARC21, crosswalks, and a brief look at XML/EAD/DACS, and how these can apply to cataloging archival and special collections materials. Register here.
- February 18, 2021: “The Good, the Bad, and the Just Plain Weird: A Short Guide to Cataloging Oddly Bound Books”
- In this session we will discuss when and how to include important physical descriptions of oddly bound materials. This could include anything from a unique binding, an artist’s book, or a periodical bound out of order. Register here.
- March 18, 2021: “Braille: Decoding the Dots”
- How to catalog braille books, specific MARC fields that should be included in a bibliographic record, and how to code the fixed-field elements will be covered. Register here.
- April 15, 2021: “Mixing It Up: Mixed Materials”
- While kits contain multiple items issued as one unit intended for instruction, collections of mixed materials contain two or more forms that are most often related by being about or accumulated by a body or person. MARC fields and RDA guidelines for mixed materials will be discussed. Register here.
- May 20, 2021: “Cheerios, Rice Krispies, or The Directory of Overseas Summer Jobs?”
- Discusses what a serial is, the differences in cataloging a single item vs. cataloging serials, and demonstrates the fixed-field differences and variable fields that apply to serial records. Register here.
