Are you interested in learning more about library administration and management? Do you want to make the most of whatever your role might be within an academic library? Or, are you just curious about how the work environment in libraries has changed over the past decade or so? Be sure to register for the ACRL online course “The Library Workplace in the 21st Century”. The course, which runs from Monday, February 22, to Saturday, March 12, is asynchronous and requires approximately 1-3 hours of work per week. The focus of the class is “employee ownership”, or the idea that individual employees can take on an active leadership role within their organizations, while thinking independently about solutions to the ever-changing challenges facing 21st-century libraries. More broadly, participants will learn how to thrive within an organization, by understanding their co-workers reactions to change, and by developing the emotional intelligence needed to work successfully as part of a team while still embracing, and building, on, one’s own role.
For more information on the course, and to register, go here. The cost for ACRL members is $135, and for members of ALA who do not belong to ACRL, it is $175. The course instructor is library consultant Kimberly Sweetman. In addition to reading assigned materials, participants will also post to discussion boards and complete other online exercises.
