Join ACRL for its President’s Program at the 2019 ALA Annual Conference in Washington D.C. Hosted by ACRL President Lauren Pressley, this program will take place from 10:30 am to 12:00 pm on Saturday, June 22, at the Washington Convention Center, Room 146A.
Titled “Equity, Diversity, Inclusion… and Leadership: Where Do We Go From Here?,” this program will be presented by Dr. Angela Spranger, Lecturer in Management at the Luter School of Business at Christopher Newport University and the Principal/Owner of StepOne Consulting LLC.
Issues of equity in diverse workplaces, and the trend towards more inclusive language and policies, often leaves leaders in the difficult position of navigating the needs of the organization and the need to help the organization accommodate today’s workforce. How can leaders effectively influence and motivate their teams, when the individuals on those teams struggle with the challenges of poor communication, collaboration, culture, change and conflict? Dr. Spranger, author of Why People Stay: Helping Your Employees Feel Seen, Safe, and Valued will address contemporary issues around diversity, leadership, and inclusiveness throughout the employment lifecycle. Through intensive dialogue, shared narrative, and humor supporting the theoretical material, Dr. Spranger will share an approach to inclusive leadership that will leave participants energized and engaged.
The program continues the integral conversations around EDI issues that Pressley’s President’s Program Planning Committee has been supporting throughout the year, including the ACRL EDI Discussion Series blog, which features posts on topics such as EDI in community colleges; designing anti-oppressive events and instruction; queer, feminist, and critical theory; metadata justice; and more.
