Please join the ACRL Technical Services Interest Group fall meeting on Monday, November 7, at 1:00 PM CDT. Our topic will be how libraries and archives can use Wikipedia and Wikimedia to share content with a larger and more diverse audience. Our guest speaker is Michael Barera, Assistant Archivist and Digitization Specialist at the Milwaukee County Historical Society. Please see Michael’s bio. below.
Michael Barera is the Assistant Archivist and Digitization Specialist at the Milwaukee County Historical Society. Prior to this position, he was previously the University and Labor Archivist at the University of Texas at Arlington Libraries (2019-2022) and the Assistant Archivist at the Texas A&M University-Commerce Libraries (2015-19). He is twice a graduate of the University of Michigan (BA ’12, MSI ’14) and a native of Ann Arbor, Michigan.
Michael has been an active Wikipedian for over 15 years, contributing most actively on the English Wikipedia and Wikimedia Commons. He has created more than 100 new articles on English Wikipedia and uploaded almost 20,000 of his own photographs to Wikimedia Commons. In addition, he has facilitated collaborations with Wikipedia during his tenure with the University of Texas at Arlington Libraries, the Texas A&M University-Commerce Libraries, and during an internship at the Gerald R. Ford Presidential Library.
