Are you finding that management responsibilities are becoming an increasing part of your job, even if you are not in a top supervisory position? Do you want to make the most of the resources that are available for promoting your organization? Then you will not want to miss the advanced ALA e-course “Management Bootcamp for Librarians and Other Information Professionals”. This 12-week class, which is based on a semester-long course offered by the San Jose State University School of Information, has an asynchronous format and begins April 4.
Participants will learn about the basics of library management, from planning projects and delegating responsibilities, to marketing the library’s resources and developing a budget that enables the library to fulfill its mission. The course will also cover specific tools, such as the SWOT analysis, that managers can use to learn more the organization’s strengths and weaknesses, in addition to the internal and external challenges facing it. Even though the class may not provide all of the answers to the numerous and varied questions facing mangers today, participants will come away with at least a better understanding of which resources to consult for learning more.
The instructor for the class is Sean Gaffney, who designed the original course at the SJSU iSchool. For more information, and to register, go here.
