Are you looking for ways to generate insights, improve service, build connections, and increase the impact of your library? Do you have a research idea or question that you want to pursue but do not know where to start? Are you interested in increasing your value to the library?
The Medical Library Association’s Research Training Institute (RTI) Fellowship is a unique, highly effective, and collaborative online research and support program. RTI assessment findings show the RTI learning model is sound and effective, and increases the research skills, confidence, and productivity of participants. All librarians, no matter the size or type of setting, or level of professional experience, who provide health information services, collections, and support, and want to contribute to improving library and health care outcomes, are encouraged to apply to the RTI fellowship program. RTI 2024 also accepts a limited number of graduate students from Library and Information Science (LIS) programs, bringing together LIS practitioners and students for highly advanced research instruction and hands-on experience in conducting a research project.
The Institute is a one-year online program that consists of a series of online modules in advanced research methods, mentoring by faculty experts and peer coaches, preparing and implementing a research project, and an opportunity to present their research project at the MLA ’25 Conference & Exhibits. RTI 2024 features an extensive research curriculum and schedule, and many new support services. Participants can also earn 48 MLA continuing education (CE) contact hours and an MLA Research Training Institute Fellow Certificate. Learn more about the RTI fellowship program details.
Applications (requires having an MLA account) are now being accepted through Monday, February 19, for the 2024 cohort of RTI research fellows. Accepted applicants will be notified in April 2024. See the RTI website for eligibility requirements and selection criteria. The Institute also offers scholarship opportunities for professionals with a financial need. RTI ’24 submissions are not limited to U.S. librarians. Canadian and international librarians are encouraged and welcome to apply.
