The Nursing Information Literacy Framework Working Group is currently seeking feedback on their draft Companion Document to the ACRL Framework for Information Literacy for Higher Education: Nursing. We thank you in advance for your input to ensure this document is thoughtful and useful.
Please access the various frames here. We also have a Qualtrics survey open for your feedback here. Our survey also includes an option to indicate you’d like to review subsequent drafts and associated appendix content (e.g., learning goals and activities, etc.). Thank you in advance for your important feedback.
Background
In 2013, the ACRL Board of Directors approved the Information Literacy Competency Standards for Nursing. Then, in 2016, ACRL adopted the Framework for Information Literacy in Higher Education, which rescinded the overall Information Literacy Competency Standards for Higher Education (adopted in 2001). The ACRL Health Sciences Interest Group put out a call for working group members to develop a Framework companion document focused on Nursing in 2018, and that group has worked to better understand the position of information literacy within nursing education (see here), and how nursing faculty approach information literacy within instruction across a variety of institutions (see article here). The group has also worked to sort relevant literature as part of their process, sharing them to the HSIG LibGuide (see here).
While significant progress had been made by 2020 by the group, we had also heard by then that the AACN Essentials were undergoing revision. As a result of that, we paused long enough for the release of the revised Essentials and then got right back to work, using the Essentials to inform the draft we are now sharing with you. Our draft thus represents the synthesis of these efforts, the rich and varied experiences of committee members and their constituencies, and the desire to present a thoughtful and useful Nursing companion to the ACRL Framework.
