The ACRL DSS (Digital Scholarship Section) Numeric & Geospatial Data Services Discussion Group is seeking speakers for a panel on data literacy for our 2021 ALA activity, tentatively scheduled for Tuesday, June 15, from 12:00 to 1:00 PM CDT. This one-hour virtual panel aims to bring together library professionals from a variety of institution types and career stages to discuss the various aspects of data literacy. We encourage submissions from all backgrounds and levels of experience, whether you are a data services veteran or newly interested in incorporating data literacy concepts into your work.
Talks will be 7-10 minutes long depending on the final number of panelists. Time will be allocated at the end of the session for Q & A.
Examples of potential topics include the following.
- data literacy instruction
- data literacy outreach and engagement
- data literacy training for library staff
- data literacy among the disciplines
- geospatial data literacy
- data literacy in the digital humanities
- data literacy for diversity, equity, and inclusion
- feminist data literacy
- data literacy and civic engagement
- data visualization and infographics
- data management, formatting, archiving, and preservation
- finding and using data
- data ethics
- critical data literacy
Panelists should be prepared to engage in anti-oppressive behavior during the session, as articulated in the DSS Community Agreement.
Submit a Proposal
Complete proposals must include a title, full abstract (fewer than 300 words), and information for each speaker, including name, title, institution, brief bio, and email address. Registration is free. Please complete the proposal form by Monday, May 24.
