The Association of Creative Technologies in Academic Libraries (ACTAL) Conference planning committee seeks proposals for its first annual Conference.
The ACTAL Conference seeks to bring together people that are working in creative technologies in academic libraries, broadly in the areas of media, making, and visualization, for community, conversations, and learning. We encourage participation from anyone who self-identifies as being interested in those areas. For more information and to sign up for the mailing list, visit the ACTAL website.
We are planning for both in-person and virtual Conference events. The in-person Conference, including workshops, presentations, roundtables, and lightning talks, will take place at North Carolina State University, in Raleigh, NC, on November 15-17, Tuesday-Thursday. A virtual portion of the Conference, consisting exclusively of small group roundtables, will take place synchronously on November 9-10, Wednesday-Thursday.
We are seeking proposals for roundtables, workshops (teaching or tinkering), presentations, and lightning talk posters. Examples of topics can include, but are absolutely not limited to, the following areas.
- Developing and administering supportive, people-centered technology spaces
- Collection development for technology equipment for circulation and studio spaces
- Assignment development (curricular and non-curricular) for audio and video production, graphic design, data visualization, VR and other projects
- Development of workshops, workshop series, and other extracurricular events
- Student employee mentorship, management, and training for creative technology
- Assessment of spaces and services
- Challenges, failures, and head-scratchers
- Marketing and promotion
- Other topics specific to media studios, makerspaces, and other tech-rich service points
To submit a proposal, please go here and click on the link to the Google form. The deadline is Monday, August 15. Notifications of acceptance will go out on Thursday, September 1.
Conference registration opens on Monday, September 5. Watch the Conference website for more information as it becomes available.
