“Best Practices in Inclusive Instruction for Education and Behavioral Sciences Librarians”
Inclusive teaching cultivates a learning environment where all students are treated equitably, have equal access to learning, and feel supported in their learning. Academic librarians provide library instruction for students with a variety of backgrounds including first-generation, neuro-diverse, and non-traditional students as well as students with learning, physical, and mental disorders. To ensure that library instruction is accessible to all learners, librarians must actively incorporate inclusive instructional techniques and strategies when designing and delivering information literacy sessions. This discussion forum will focus on inclusive instruction practices specific to those librarians serving the disciplines of education and behavioral sciences.
In this discussion forum dedicated to inclusive teaching, we are seeking for panel members with a background in education and behavioral sciences to share their experience and recommendations to assist librarians in developing instruction that is accessible, inclusive, and impactful for their students. The panel for this webinar will discuss emerging best practices in inclusive instruction. Topical areas may include, but not limited to, universal design for learning, learning/e-learning accessibility, instruction strategies that facilitate an environment that encourages participation in a variety of ways, and use of ongoing self-reflection for continual growth as an instructor.
