Title: Spotlight on Consumer Health Libraries in the GMR
Presenters: Mindy Egeland, MA, Director at Patients’ Library, University of Iowa Hospitals & Clinics and Abby Thorne at Don and Cathy Jacobs Health Education Center, University of Kentucky
Our December Lake Effects webinar is dedicated to highlighting some of the consumer health libraries in our region. While some of the hospital libraries are being closed down, the GMR is proud to have consumer health libraries that are thriving. Two such libraries are University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics (UIHC) Patients’ Library and Don and Cathy Jacobs Health Education Center (University of Kentucky HealthCare). Mindy Egeland, director from UIHC Patients’ Library will be talking about the history of her library, renovation and present day library services. She will also discuss some ideas for keeping hospital and consumer health libraries viable in the 21st century. Abby Thorne, Health Education Coordinator from UK Health Education Center will talk about the skills and adaptation strategies for being a new consumer health librarian and highlight some of the projects she completed in 2014, her first year on the job.
