The National Network of Libraries of Medicine – Greater Midwest Region, in conjunction with the National Library of Medicine, is offering the one-hour webinar “Mapping Tools for Outreach and Public Health”. The event will take place from 2:00 to 3:00 PM CST on Wednesday, May 10. The course is taught by Elizabeth Kiscaden, Associate Director for the National Network of Libraries of Medicine – Greater Midwest Region. It is part of the NNLM Resource Picks bimonthly webcast series. More information about the webinar and the series is below.
The National Library of Medicine (NLM) Community Health Maps (CHM) blog seeks to improve access to accurate, high quality health information, especially by underserved and special populations. By conveying potential uses of mapping to community groups unfamiliar with the technology and/or too busy to pursue it and by supporting those already engaged in mapping, the program enhances community mapping efforts that support access to health information. Speakers include Colette Hochstein, Technical Information Specialist in the Biomedical Information Services Branch of the NLM Division of Specialized Information Resources; Janice E. Kelly, Acting Deputy Associate Director and Chief, Outreach and Special Populations Branch in the Division of Specialized Information Services at the National Library of Medicine; Kurt Menke, Certified GIS Professional (GISP) and consultant for the National Library of Medicine; and John Scott, Founder and Director of the Center for Public Service Communications.
NNLM Resource Picks is a collaborative, bimonthly, webcast series featuring the National Library of Medicine resources to increase awareness of these resources as well as encourage their integration by libraries and other organizations to more fully serve their colleagues and communities. Several of the National Network of Libraries of Medicine offices are combining efforts to feature resource experts from NLM for this national webinar series. Each session includes objectives, participation of attendees through questions and opportunities to dialog, and evaluation following the presentation. All sessions are presented as online webcasts using WebEx allowing for live phone conversation and online chat. Topics currently scheduled include: DIMRC, AIDS resources, PubMed, NLM Traveling Exhibits, Drug Information Portal, and PubMed Health. All sessions are recorded with closed captioning and archived.
Upon successful completion of this class, each participant will receive 1.0 hour of continuing-education credit awarded by the Medical Library Association. For more information, and to register, go here.
