The National Network of Librarians of Medicine – Greater Midwest Region will offer the online course “ABCs of DNA: Unraveling the Mystery of Genetics Information for Consumers”, starting January 11 and continuing through March 4. The course, which will meet eight times and will be worth 4 CE hours from the Medical Library Association, will cover the best strategies for making consumers aware of resources on genetic information that are user-friendly and timely. In addition to learning how to identify and evaluate the best resources for laypeople, participants will also study the science of genetics, along with the ethical and legal issues currently affecting genetic research, particularly relating to genetic disorders. The resources covered include Genetics Home Reference, Clinical Trials.gov, and NORD (National Organization for Rare Disorders).
