The National Network of Libraries of Medicine – MidContinental Region is sponsoring two webinars this month that may be of interest to librarians who work in a hospital setting or who focus on medicine or the biosciences. Both webinars are free, and no pre-registration is required. Each webinar is worth 1 hour of continuing education-credit from the Medical Library Association.
On Tuesday, December 8, at 11:00 AM CST, tune in to the “Hospital Libraries: Challenges and Opportunities (Boost Box)” webinar. The presentation, hosted by Heather N. Holmes from Summa Health System in Akron (OH), will cover the key issues that are currently affecting hospital libraries or are likely to have an impact in the near future. Topics include budget cuts, Meaningful Use, and the Affordable Care Act. Participants will learn how hospital libraries can address these challenges, while also aiding the broader institution in keeping costs down.
On Thursday, December 17, also at 11:00 AM CST, Kate Flewelling, the Outreach Coordinator for the NN/LM – MidAtlantic Region, will present “Saving Time with PubMed Subject-Specific Queries”. The webinar is intended for librarians who already have experience searching PubMed but need help finding information on specific topics. Participants will learn time-saving strategies, including using preformulated searches, to locate the best sources on such subjects as health-information technology and public health.
