The proposals deadline for next year’s National Diversity in Libraries Conference has been extended to Tuesday, December 15. The conference will be held from August 10 to August 13, 2016, on the campus of the University of California, Los Angeles. Proposals should reflect the conference’s theme of “Bridges to Inclusion”, which focuses on issues of diversity and inclusion affecting library staff and users and their broader institutions. Sessions should not just outline a problem, but provide useful skills and strategies, while fostering constructive dialogue. Ideas may fall within (but are not limited to) the following program tracks.
Collection and Access–especially global and multicultural collections covering different language and formats
Programming, Outreach, and Advocacy–engagement with diverse populations, both inside and outside of the library setting, through instruction and digital technologies
Personnel, Management, and Organization–recruiting and retaining a diverse staff, while overcoming cultural difference and biases
Challenging Topics–issues, including freedom of expression, relating to library resources covering controversial subjects
All sessions will be 1 hour and 15 minutes long. They will take the format of a workshop, panel, roundtable, or individual paper or presentation. Individuals whose proposals have been accepted will be notified by February 1, 2016.
