Registration is now open for the 16th Annual Information Literacy Summit, themed “From Teaching to Learning: Context and Collaboration”. The event will take place on Friday, May 5, from 8:30 AM to 3:30 PM, at the Moraine Valley Community College campus in Palos Hills. The co-sponsors of the Summit are the libraries at DePaul University and Moraine Valley Community College. The cost is $45 for attendees or $25 for presenters, and it includes breakfast, lunch, and materials. To register, go here. Groups that should attend include librarians who are involved with teaching and learning in almost any aspect; academic, school, public, and special librarians; and teachers and other educators who want to discuss information literacy, student research and student use of information.
The keynote speaker at this year’s event will be Wendy Holliday, who is the Head of Teaching, Learning, and Research Services at Cline University. Her address is titled “Boundaries and Sovereignties: Placing Students at the Center of Information Literacy”. Using the metaphors of boundaries and thresholds, this talk will examine some of the recent discourse around the ACRL Framework for Information Literacy and the purpose of higher education. It will explore what might happen when we place students and the idea of sovereignty at the center of our conceptions of information literacy.
