You are invited to join the ACRL Education and Behavioral Sciences Section Curriculum Materials Committee’s upcoming event,”Library Resources and the Science of Reading”. It will take place on Monday, June 17, from 1:00 to 2:30 PM CDT.
This 90-minute event is focused on library resources and the science of reading, specifically how academic libraries with education collections or curriculum materials centers, as well as school libraries and public libraries can support literacy development and be informed on conversations around the science of reading. The expert panel includes:
- Bridgette Abbott: Educator and Reading Specialist at South-Euclid Lyndhurst School District
- Kate Dimeo: Literacy Consultant at Lake Orion Community Schools
- C. Patrick Proctor: Teaching, Curriculum, and Society Professor at Boston College
- Marjorie Rowe: Literary Studies Assistant Professor at East Carolina University
- Rita Soulen: Library Science Assistant Professor at East Carolina University
Panelists will address audience questions as well as provide insight on how the science of reading: emerged in their professional setting; influenced their professional practice; informed their view of literacy; impacted conversations with educators, parents, and librarians; altered literacy resources they have, use, or want; and affected recommendations they would give to librarians regarding resources or services.
If you are interested in attending, please register for the event here.
Any librarian or library staff member interested in education collections, children’s literature, early literacy, or curriculum materials is welcome to attend. Feel free to share the event widely.
