On behalf of the ACRL EBSS (Education and Behavioral Sciences Section) Instruction for Educators Committee and EBSS Curriculum Materials Committee, you are invited to the upcoming event “Partners Against Censorship: Education Librarians and School Librarians”. It will take place via Zoom on Friday, September 20, from 3:00 to 4:00 PM CDT.
Join us for a panel discussion moderated by James Rosenzweig featuring experts at the forefront of book challenges in the U.S. such as:
- April M. Dawkins, Assistant Professor in the Department of Information, Library, & Research Sciences at UNC-Greensboro;
- Gavin Downing, Teacher-Librarian at Kentridge High School in Kent School District, Washington; and
- Elissa Malespina, Teacher-Librarian at Union High School in the Township of Union, New Jersey
Based on their research and lived experiences, the panelists will offer guidance on how librarians can support each other when it comes to dealing with book challenges or issues of censorship given the current legislative landscape. They will address critical issues facing teachers, school librarians, academic librarians and teacher education programs pertaining to readiness and training of educators in the defense of the freedom to read.
Library or education professionals and interested graduate students are invited to register to attend. For more information, and to register, please go here.
