Registration is open for the ACRL Online Learning webcast “Making Connections: Strategies for Effective, Engaging One-Shot Library Lessons”. It will take place on Wednesday, June 12, from 1:00 to 2:00 PM CDT.
The one-shot, where students or patrons attend a standalone learning sessions, is a classic method of offering library instruction. A growing body of research has demonstrated the benefit of developing positive student/teacher relationships in terms of lesson effectiveness and learning outcomes, but this is not easy in a one-shot where time is limited and librarians usually do not know their students and might never see them again. However, there are some simple strategies that can be easily integrated into existing curricula in order to develop positive relationships with students even in an isolated one-shot session. Learn strategies to build connections with students, hear examples of how these have been used, and demonstrate some of these practices in real-time so participants can experience the benefits for themselves.
