Health sciences librarians are information professionals who have special knowledge in quality health information resources. By helping physicians, allied health professionals, administrators, students, faculty, and researchers stay abreast of and learn about new developments in their fields. They work in a variety of environments which include academia, hospitals, industry, and government, and possess a special skill set to evaluate the quality, authenticity and accuracy of health information from a variety of resources. They implement innovative strategies to access and deliver important information for patient care, research, and publication.
There is a lack of available training and education in health sciences librarianship, however, and often librarians who take on this roll are left to learn on the job. This course will introduce librarians to the most common specialties found in health sciences librarianship.
By completing the modules, participants will be able to:
- explain the professional roles that are part of the healthcare team
- describe the different settings health sciences librarians work in and the roles they take on in these environments
- describe the how health sciences librarians support research and scholarly activity
- employ modern health sciences education andragogy and innovative teaching techniques to deliver essential education to contribute to patient care, scientific research, and clinical publications
This course is worth 1.5 CEUs or 15 PDHs. The cost is $250.00.
