Description
Librarians often face similar challenges across institutions regarding data collection and reporting. Deciding what data to collect, best practices for reporting, and attempting to standardize data collection/report processes and procedures between departments can seem impossible. Commonly, librarians find themselves addressing the key issues of:
- Who are our stakeholders and what do they want to know?
- Do librarians and stakeholders speak the same language?
- Do we all share an understanding of key success metrics, annual goals, and the long term vision for the library?
Library UX Chicago is delighted to invite you to attend this workshop exploring effective storytelling using data featuring Dr. Kate McDowell. This lecture/workshop event is designed to introduce the fundamentals of how to think like a storyteller regarding library data. Registration for this event is required.
Outcomes
Attendees will learn:
- Strategies for applying principles of storytelling to the workplace, and discovering ways these principles can be used to express the value of libraries to internal and external stakeholders.
- Explore successful story structures for data; using sample or real library data to find stories that they could tell at their institutions.
- Learn how to effectively craft and retell their stories.
