The registration for the Thursday, August 12, virtual symposium “Cataloging Queer Library Issues: A symposium to honor Walt ‘Cat’ Walker” is now open. Registration is free, but space is limited to 500 virtual guests (a live streaming option will be available if we reach our max capacity).
To register, please go here. For information about the event, including speakers, presentations, and the schedule, please go to the conference website.
This virtual event will highlight various aspects of queer librarianship, including programs, projects, outreach, and initiatives, from areas of academic library and archives work. It will include a keynote by Shawn(ta) Smith-Cruz, presentations by representatives from some of the projects that Walt Walker contributed to during his time with us (ONE Archives, Rainbow Round Table, and Homosaurus), and solicited lightning round presentations.
Walt, better known to friends as “Cat”, passed away in June 2020. Walt was a catalog librarian and an activist, a long-time Head of Cataloging at Loyola Marymount University, a notable member of ALA’s Rainbow Roundtable and of OLAC, and an editorial board member for the Homosaurus. In hosting this symposium, we hope to honor these aspects and areas of Walt’s life and work.
