The Network of the National Library of Medicine (NNLM) is excited to announce that we are hosting a free Data Carpentries Workshop for LIS students on Monday, February 19, and Tuesday, February 20, from 9:00 AM to 4:00 PM CDT both days. We hope you will share this information with your students and encourage them to register!
About the Workshops
Carpentries Workshops focus on building software and data skills within library and information-related communities. The hands-on, approachable workshops can help LIS students prepare to work with their own data, and promote data tools and best practices to researchers and faculty in future roles. Prior experience or knowledge in coding or data science is not required, and the instructors put a priority on creating a friendly environment to empower learners and enable data-driven discovery.
In this two-day, interactive workshop students will learn core software and data skills, with lessons including:
- Data Organization in Spreadsheets
- Data Cleaning with OpenRefine
- Data Analysis and Visualization with R
Qualifications
- No previous coding or data science experience is required. The Workshop is designed with beginners in mind.
- You must be enrolled in an LIS program presiding in NNLM Region 3 (AR, LA, KS, MO, OK, NE, and TX) or Region 6 (IL, IN, IA, MI, MN, OH, and WI).
- Plan to attend the entirety of the work on Monday, February 19, and Tuesday, February 20, from 9:00 AM to 4:00 PM CDT both days
