“Promoting Health Equity Through Knowledge Dissemination”
Dr. Brenikki Floyd, PhD, MPH
Clinical Assistant Professor, Community Health Sciences
UIC School of Public Health
- Access to health information is an important social determinant of health that is critical to a person’s ability to make informed decisions about their healthcare and actively participate in the shared-decision making process with their medical providers. Health communication provides many opportunities to improve health outcomes among diverse populations when applied using a health equity lens. This presentation will focus on the role of infographics as an effective tool to advance health equity in disseminating complex health information to various audiences.
“Designing infographics: Less Ticks and Color, More Point of View”
Prof. Robert Zolna, MDes
Clinical Associate Professor, Design Methods
UIC School of Design and Innovation Center
- Software has made it increasingly easy to communicate our data visually. But do these automated outputs actually communicate within the narrative? By looking at examples that move beyond software outputs into design we will discuss their impact, how they were used, and simple ways to customize.
“Creating Infographics with Everyday Software”
Mr. Fred LaPolla, MLS
Research and Data Services Librarian, Data Services Team
NYU Health Sciences Library
- Building effective and understandable infographics to provide health information is a valuable skill and does not require mastery of technically complex design software. This session will involve a deep-dive into design features of Microsoft PowerPoint to help you make clear, focused and appealing infographics for your community.
