Please join the Librarian Education Reform Discussion Group for our March presentation and discussion, “The Struggle to Diversify Library Staff”. Our presenter will be Jill Hurst-Wall, President of Hurst Associates, Ltd. and Professor Emerita in Syracuse University’s School of Information Studies. Our format is a short presentation, followed by breakout rooms for discussion. Ms. Hurst-Wahl recommends the following blog posts to help frame the discussion.
- “The Struggle to Diversify Library Staff, Part 1”–defines the problem.
- “The Struggle to Diversify Library Staff, Part 2”–lists what people have done to try to diversify librarianship–have they worked?
- “The Struggle to Diversify Library Staff, Part 3”–tackles what it means to be an educated librarian and lays out possible new paths to achieve that–I think my thoughts here might be deemed radical
- “The Struggle to Diversify Library Staff, Part 4”–an addendum which asks how do we prompt real change
The event is on Tuesday, March 9, at 12:00 PM CDT. Please register here. Join the discussion at any time on ALA Connect or Facebook.
