Registration is still open for the upcoming Library Juice Academy course “Active Learning Strategies”. It is an asynchronous online course that lasts from Monday, August 1, to Sunday, August 28. The instructor is Mimi O’Malley, the learning technology translation strategist at Spalding University. Please see below for additional details.
Traditional lecture tends to overload students with information which becomes difficult to comprehend or simply repeats textbook readings. Active learning allows students to digest information sequenced through activities. This course will explore active learning strategies for both in-class and online courses and instruction. Cooperative, collaborative, problem-based, and project-based learning will be explored. Reviewing assessments of active learning strategies will also be discussed. The course will conclude with potential barriers along with strategies to keep students motivated during active learning. Participants will complete the course with one active learning activity to incorporate into a class or instruction.
This course can be taken as one of the courses in our eight-course Certificate in Library Instruction, but can be taken as a stand-alone course, also. It is worth 1.5 CEUs or 15 PDHs.
To register, please go here. The deadline is Sunday, August 7. The cost is $200.00. Please note that the number of seats is limited.
