Join us in Boston for the Charleston Conference Library Acquisitions Boot Camp at SSP (Society for Scholarly Publishing).
Wednesday, May 27, 2020
8:30 AM – 3:30 PM
Westin Waterfront, Boston MA
This pre-meeting training session, a popular feature of the annual Charleston Conference, is now open to attendees of the 2020 SSP Annual Meeting.
The training session will offer a high-level overview of the workflows and concepts of the acquisitions process from the librarian’s point of view, from how libraries select materials to how they recommend interacting with vendors, and how they articulate the return on investment to their parent organizations (academic/special/public libraries). Attendees will gain valuable insight into the strategies and best practices librarians use to manage a variety of material types, such as print materials, e-books, and other e-resources. The group will also discuss how emerging issues, like Plan S for open access science publishing and transformative agreements, are affecting libraries’ acquisitions plans.
This class is ideally suited for librarians new to selection and acquisitions workflows as well as publishing professionals who want to learn more about current acquisition practices in libraries and the impact of open access on both communities.
