The Slavic Reference Service (SRS) at the University of Illinois will be hosting its 4th Annual Interlibrary Loan Symposium, “Shared Print Collections and the Future of Resource Sharing”. The event will take place via Zoom, on Wednesday, February 22, starting at 10:00 AM CDT. The symposium is made possible by funding from the Department of State’s Program for the Study of Eastern Europe and the Independent States of the Former Soviet Union (Title VIII).
Shared print programs are reshaping how institutions, user groups, and research services interact with print collections at the local, regional, and international levels. Through these programs, academic libraries are pursuing increased collaboration, efficiency, and coordination in the overall management of the combined, multi-institutional collection. As this model continues to gain momentum among institutions, its effect on library services, including ILL and resource sharing, requires closer examination. Challenges and unforeseen costs, as well as opportunities, need to be further explored and discussed.
In an effort to facilitate the exchange of ideas, we are inviting proposals from ILL librarians, subject liaisons, administrators, and functional specialists who are responsible for collection building, management, and ILL services. We seek to highlight institutional or multi-institutional case studies, assessment of collection sharing (e.g. lending and borrowing of materials), perspectives from subject liaisons on collection development/curation, and experiences of user groups and services.
