Georgia State University Library will again be hosting the Open for Student Success Symposium, an online conference where educators and students share knowledge, practices, and resources centered around open education. The 2025 meeting will take place via WebEx on Friday, March 7, from 8:30 AM to 3:30 PM CDT. The theme is “Open Education-Fueling Equity in Learning”.
The event planners are currently accepting proposals for 45- and 20-minute live sessions, in addition to pre-recorded presentations. The submission deadline is Friday, October 25, 2024. Please submit them here.
The 2025 event will feature two keynote speakers. Paola Corti, Open Education Community Manager at SPARC Europe, will share how her work is breaking barriers in the Open Education Movement by harnessing an international network of librarians. Virginia Clinton-Lisell, Associate Professor of Education, Health, and Behavior at the University of North Dakota, is also to share findings of her research investigating perceptions of access codes and their impact on student success.
Last academic year, the Symposium’s coordination team opened the event to anyone curious about open educational resources and their applications for higher education. Presenters represented Chattahoochee Technical College, Clayton State University, Columbus State University, Georgia Southwestern State University, Georgia State University, Jefferson Community College, Kennesaw State University, Middle Tennessee State University, University of Georgia, University of Utah, and Valdosta State University. Additionally, the coordinators obtained permission from speakers to publish recordings of the 18 presentations to an openly accessible library research guide under a Creative Commons license.
The Symposium will again publish an openly accessible collection of recordings in 2025. The team of librarians behind the event has also put out a special call for GSU students to share their voices, seeking to highlight Atlanta-based projects that address student-centered issues in education.
