Please join the 2023 ACRL Science and Technology Section Conference Program Planning Committee virtually on Thursday, June 15, for the STS Annual Program! This year’s program examines topics related to equity, diversity, and inclusion in STEM libraries. The program has two presentations. The first will begin at 12:00 PM CDT. The second will begin at 2:00 PM CDT.
The first presentation will feature a panel by the authors of the 4-part Issues in Science and Technology Libraries (ISTL) series “Science Librarianship and Social Justice“””, Jeffra Bussmann, Isabel Altamirano, Samuel Hansen, Nastasha Johnson, and Gr Keer. These articles introduce librarians to introductory, intermediate, advanced, and capstone social justice concepts.
The second presentation of the Annual Program will feature speaker Dr. Lidia Ponce de la Vega. Dr. Ponce de la Vega, a Mellon Postdoctoral Fellow at William & Mary, will present her work on the decolonization of biodiversity collections by focusing on case studies related to natural history and biodiversity knowledge from and about Latin America. Her talk will explore issues of coloniality and decoloniality in the openly accessible collections of the Biodiversity Heritage Library concerning nonhuman species, the Global South, and Indigenous knowledges.
