CARLI is pleased to announce three recipients of the 2021 CARLI Scholarship: Jacqueline Mann, Loyola University Chicago; Abigail Mastin, University of St. Francis; and Kate Swope, Northern Illinois University. The CARLI Scholarship, awarded for the first time in 2020, provides financial assistance to current employees of CARLI Governing Member Libraries pursuing graduate studies leading to a Master’s degree in Library and Information Science at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. Each recipient will receive a $1,000 CARLI Scholarship for the 2021-2022 academic year.
Recipient Jacqueline Mann commented “I am beyond thankful not just to be awarded a CARLI Scholarship, but also for how welcomed into the professional library field I now feel upon receiving this award. I am so excited to continue my career in libraries by attending the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign’s iSchool, which the CARLI Scholarship will help me to do, and to further commit myself to long-term work in academic libraries.”
The recipients were selected based on their responses to a personal essay question regarding their professional goals and objectives in pursuing a library career that demonstrates a commitment to the profession and the strength of their references.
Kate Swope noted “I am thrilled to be one of the recipients of the CARLI Scholarship this year. This is a bit of a career change and, with one course complete, I am now even more eager to continue on this journey. Thank you CARLI Scholarship Committee!”
“We are thrilled to award three scholarships this year, and so pleased to be able to help support the education of the dedicated staff of our CARLI libraries,” said CARLI Senior Director Anne Craig. “I am grateful to the Scholarship Fund donors who have so generously supported this important new program, helping CARLI to grow the profession.”
The CARLI Scholarship was established in commemoration of the 40th anniversary of resource sharing by CARLI and its predecessor organizations. The scholarship is funded by donations. For more information about the CARLI Scholarship Fund or to donate, go here.
