The Medical Library Association is offering a webinar on the concept of data visualization and the ways in which libraries can provide data-visualization services to their users. Keeping abreast of changes related to data visualization is crucial for librarians, as it is currently one of the most effective ways to display large amounts of information and simplify complex ideas. The webinar will focus on the best techniques for creating visually-appealing displays, customizing visualizations by using the “Grammar of Graphics”, and determining which software and other tools are most effective for a library’s specific needs. In addition, participants will learn the best strategies for setting up a data-visualization service for library users and what resources are available for further background and education on data visualization.
The webinar, which is titled “Data Visualization Skills and Tools for Librarians”, will take place on Wednesday, October 28, from 1:00 PM to 2:30 PM CST. It is worth 1.5 continuing-education hours from MLA. The cost for individuals who are members of MLA is $59; for non-members, it is $99. Entire sites, also, may register; the cost is $225 for member institutions and $325 for non-member institutions.
